Discussion One: Guernica

Good morning class! Today for our first discussion on the class blog, we will be dissecting one of the most important pieces in art. The painting titled Guernica was a masterclass from that of Pablo Picasso. In 1937, he pushed the boundaries as far as scale and meaning with this painting that some think is his magnum opus. I want you to dissect this painting yourself. There will be two parts to this assignment.

              1. Explain in detail what it is you think this painting is trying to convey. The story it's trying to tell, and why the colors and expressions might be of importance to the overall meaning. Explain what feelings it may invoke in you, whether it be anguish, stress, or sadness.

               2. The second part of the assignment requires you to respond to at least two classmates and question why they think the way they do. Try to spark and conversation that could lead someone to a new theory or idea. I do not want one sentence answers or questions. Really try and understand, I want to see at least 3 sentences in your responses and a paragraph for your original post.

Assignment is due Friday, at 11:59 PM. Anything turned in after that will be marked as late and will be docked points to your total grade.

Welcome Class!

Welcome students, to the beginning of online learning within our class. This blog and community will be used to further indulge ourselves in the knowledge around art. We will be using this blog for a few assignments throughout the year which include video dissections, class discussions, and personal artistic endeavors. I will strive to make this class a segway to a stronger understanding of the art we will be learning in class, and the opinions of each and every one of you on the art subject. After all, the viewers opinions and outlook on the art we are looking at, is the most important part of the whole entire thing. Please be respectful just as if you were in class next to each other, and do not be shy to ask each other questions regarding the topic at hand. I'd love to see friendly involvment with each other as we move farther along into more challenging and though provoking topics. The first discussion post on this blog will be due Friday at 11:59 PM. PLEASE DO NOT BE LATE. THANK YOU.
